# How to Give Star Ratings to Candidates

Use star ratings for quick, informal evaluations that appear in the candidate's discussion history.

## What are star ratings

Star ratings let you:
* Give a 0-5 star rating to a candidate
* Share quick opinions with colleagues
* See ratings in the discussion timeline
* Track who rated and when

Star ratings are lightweight evaluations, different from formal evaluation forms.

## How to rate a candidate

1. Open the candidate's profile
2. Go to the **Discussions** tab (right panel)
3. Find the star rating widget near the top
4. Click on stars (1-5) to rate
5. Rating is posted to the discussion ![How to Give Star Ratings to Candidates: How to rate a candidate](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/4/f/a/a/4faab8f2b2ab0400/how-to-give-star-ratings-1_yeh0t7.png)

## What gets recorded

Each rating creates a note showing:
* Number of stars given
* Who gave the rating
* Date and time
* Appears in chronological order with other activity

## Multiple ratings

* Multiple team members can rate the same candidate
* Each person's rating appears separately
* No aggregate score is calculated
* Use to see different perspectives

## Star ratings vs evaluation forms

| Feature | Star Ratings | Evaluation Forms |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Speed | Quick, one click | Detailed questions |
| Structure | Unstructured | Structured criteria |
| Use case | Initial impression | Formal interview feedback |
| Notifications | No | Daily reminders until complete |
| Comparison | Informal | Standardized across candidates |

## When to use star ratings

* Quick screening of applications
* Sharing first impressions
* Informal team polling
* When you don't need detailed feedback

## When to use evaluation forms instead

* After interviews
* For structured hiring processes
* When comparing candidates objectively
* For compliance and documentation

## Tips

* Establish team conventions (what 3 stars means)
* Combine with written notes for context
* Don't rely solely on stars for decisions
* Use evaluation forms for important stages
