How to Track Where Candidates Came From
Use sources to track which channels bring candidates to your pipeline and measure recruiting effectiveness.
What Are Sources
Sources indicate where a candidate came from:
- Job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor)
- Your career site
- Referrals
- Recruiting agencies
- Social media
- Events
- Trackable links you created
Viewing and managing candidate sources
In candidate profile
- Open the candidate's profile
- Click edit Sources in the header area

- View existing sources and add or remove sources
- Select sources from dropdown or type to create a new one
In table view
- Add Source column to your table view
- See sources for all candidates at once

Bulk addition
- Select candidates using checkboxes

- Click Sources in bulk actions

- Select sources to add
Automatic sources
Sources are added automatically when:
- Candidate applies through job board integration (Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Candidate uses a trackable link
- Candidate applies through your career site
Managing source options
Create and manage sources at Settings / Sources:

- Add new sources
- Edit existing sources
- Delete unused sources
Source reports
Analyze which sources perform best:
- Go to Reporting / Sources
- Select date range
- Filter by specific jobs or view all

- See metrics:
- Candidates from each source
- Conversion through pipeline stages
- Cost per hire (if tracking costs)
What the report shows
Source | Candidates | Phone Screen | Interview | Hired |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Indeed | 150 | 45 | 20 | 5 |
80 | 35 | 18 | 4 | |
Referrals | 25 | 20 | 15 | 8 |
This helps identify:
- Volume sources (Indeed brings most candidates)
- Quality sources (Referrals have highest hire rate)
- Where to invest recruiting budget
Trackable links
Create custom trackable links for sources not automatically tracked:
- Open job's Find Candidates tab
- Scroll to trackable links section

- Create link with source name
- Use that link when posting to that channel

- Candidates who apply are tagged with that source
Best practices
- Use consistent source names
- Create sources before recruiting campaigns
- Review source reports monthly
- Compare cost per hire across sources
- Double down on high-quality sources
