How to Use Tags in Candidate Profiles

Tags help you organize and filter candidates quickly. You can add custom tags to any candidate profile and use them to track skills, hiring priorities, candidate status, or any other criteria that matters to your recruiting process.

Common Tag Use Cases

Skills and Technical Qualifications:

  • Programming languages (Python, JavaScript, SQL)
  • Certifications (PMP, CPA, SHRM-CP)
  • Software proficiency (Salesforce, QuickBooks, AutoCAD)
  • Language skills (Spanish-fluent, Mandarin-conversational)

Hiring Process Management:

  • Priority level (High-priority, Fast-track, Review-later)
  • Referral source (Employee-referral, LinkedIn-sourced, Agency)
  • Interview status (Phone-screen-passed, Skills-test-pending)
  • Special considerations (Relocation-required, Remote-only, Part-time)

Candidate Attributes:

  • Experience level (Entry-level, Senior, Executive)
  • Industry background (Healthcare, Finance, Tech-startup)
  • Special qualifications (Veterans, Diversity-candidate, Internal-transfer)
  • Availability (Immediate-start, 2-weeks-notice, Passive-candidate)

Team Coordination:

  • Hiring manager names (For-Sarah, For-Engineering-team)
  • Future opportunities (Future-openings, Keep-in-touch)
  • Pipeline stage tracking (Finalist, Second-interview, Offer-stage)

How to Add Tags to a Candidate

  1. Open the candidate's profile
  2. Click "Edit tags" in the top right corner
  3. Select an existing tag from the dropdown menu
  4. Start typing and click "Add tag" to create a new custom tag

Managing Your Tags

To organize all your tags in one place:

  1. Click "Manage tags" from the tag dropdown on any candidate profile
  2. Or go directly to Settings / Tags
  3. Add new tags, edit existing ones, or delete unused tags

Filtering Candidates by Tags

Find candidates with specific tags in two locations:

On a Job's Table View:

  1. Go to any job and select the Table tab
  2. Use the filter options to select one or more tags
  3. View only candidates matching your selected tags

On the Candidates Page:

  1. Go to the Candidates page
  2. Use the filter options to select tags
  3. Search across all candidates in your system by tag

Tips for Effective Tagging

Keep tags consistent: Use the same format each time (e.g., "Python" not "python" or "Python-developer")

Create a tagging system: Decide on standard tags for your team and use them consistently across all candidates

Don't over-tag: Focus on the most important attributes that help you make hiring decisions

Review regularly: Remove or merge duplicate tags to keep your system organized

Use compound tags: Combine attributes for more specific filtering (e.g., "Senior-Python-Remote" or "Healthcare-Sales-Manager")
